Maybe this is a new option – or maybe the option existed and I didn’t see it until recently – but MagCloud now offers perfect binding for publications of at least 20 pages, which includes a heavier, 80# cover stock. It costs an extra $1 per copy, but it’s an extra dollar well-spent.

In a previous post I mentioned how the lack of a heavier cover stock was one of the few downsides to using MagCloud to print your yearbooks. Each year I would get several complaints from parents whose children had torn the cover off their yearbooks, and I’ll be the first to admit that the text-weight cover stock left a little to be desired.

I recently finished a project that I also printed through MagCloud and used it as an excuse to sample this different binding and cover option, and was extremely happy with the result. So much so, that I went back and updated all the previous yearbooks so that any future copies ordered will print with the 80# cover stock.

I will definitely print the 2013-2014 yearbook with this option as well. Even though each copy will cost an additional dollar, we could still keep the price in the $10-$12 range and continue to make a small profit. I might have to adjust the layout slightly to accommodate the larger gutter that inevitably comes with perfect binding, but that’s a very minor change on my part to make a major upgrade that I know the children and their families will appreciate.
